Carbon Monoxide Testing
Carbon monoxide (CO2), or ‘the silent killer’ as it is often called, is a highly poisonous, colourless and odourless gas that is caused by faulty, damaged or poorly maintained gas heating systems. Energy Safe Victoria and the Real Estate Institute of Victoria advise that all gas wall and space heaters should be tested every 2 years to ensure they are not emitting carbon monoxide. It is also recommended that gas ducted heating systems be tested and serviced at similar regular intervals. The Landlord is responsible to keep their property in “Good Repair” according to the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 and keeping these gas heating systems safe and well maintained is an essential component of this requirement.
To ensure properties are adequately protected, Home Safe Services will provide servicing of all gas heating systems. They will also conduct a visual inspection of heat exchangers and a carbon monoxide test to ensure that appliances are operating safely. As part of our service, Home Safe Services will service all gas heating systems in accordance with the servicing recommendations of Energy Safe Victoria to ensure the safe use of all gas heating systems within your property. If a technician identifies any carbon monoxide, Home Safe Services is legally required to decommission the unit immediately. Home Safe Services will then follow up with a quote on a replacement unit if necessary.
